The law relating to employment can be a minefield. Philip Vint & Co. Solicitors have the experience and knowledge to advise and guide both employers and employees through this tricky area.
We deal with a range of employment law issues to include unfair dismissal, redundancy, maternity, equality, retirement, transfer of undertakings and we advise on contract drafting.
Employment disputes can be vastly reduced by properly drafted employment contracts setting out the precise terms between an employer and employee. The law requires all employers to issue their employees with a ‘Statement of terms’ of their employment; a clear employment contract can go even further.
The first issue to deal with in many employment cases, such as for unfair dismissal, is whether an individual qualifies as an employee to avail of protective legislation. One year’s continuous employment is required, although in practise this can equate to 51 weeks actual service plus a minimum of one week’s notice.
How we can help
Communication is often the key in resolving employment disputes. This in itself means understanding all of the issues and being clear on the facts. If matters cannot be settled by negotiation, then consideration is then given to issuing the appropriate proceedings. If contracts are required, we will assess your business and your needs before drafting these for you.
